Game is now finished! Download and play it HERE.

    Hi!
I'm working on a little one month project for the LD October Challenge (complete a game during October and then earn at least a dollar from it over the course of its life-span). Just 18 days remaining to finish (tick-tock), and still a ton to do. I'd love to get some feedback and suggestions and maybe even some play testing at a later stage if anyone's up for it!

The game works something like this: you are surrounded by eight rivers of lava, with enemies pouring in from every pathway between them. The place is a defensive nightmare. All you have to protect yourself with in the beginning is a pile of rocks, and your keen stone-throwing ability. As you fend of the waves of monsters (hopefully) you gain points which you can use to upgrade your player's weapons and abilities as well as purchase and upgrade different towers (hey it's another tower defence game, sort of) which you can place on the few rocks jutting out from the lava to aid you in overcoming the hoards.

Here's the current state of affairs:

    Player Weapons:
    Default (rock throwing)
    Sling
    Crossbow
    Pistol
    Assault Rifle
    Grenade Launcher

    Player Upgrades:
still gotta think these up, suggestions will be received with much gratitude!

    Turrets/Towers:
    Archer Tower
Stone flinger (kinda like a catapult)
    Gun Tower
    Rocket Tower
    Miasmic Tower (slows and weakens)
The Barrage (very powerful, shoots volleys of missiles)

    My current todo list:
    Finish coding player weapons
Think up and implement player upgrades
Program, model and animate three different enemy types
Create a non-horrific GUI (not looking forward to this)
    Add some music and sfx
    Improve the graphics
    Balance
    Polish
    Test
    Bug squash
    Release
    Pray for a buyer ^^

Thanks for reading, I look forward to reading your thoughts.

    Sounds like fun!

From the looks of it, I am assuming you are going to use the stuff you develop here in your other project as well?

As far as playtesting goes, I would be more than happy to help with that...

    Thanks Axtel ;)
Some of the code and art assets should be reusable, yes.

This morning I finished coding the grenade launcher and crossbow..

    Thanks PixelHead ^^

School has been hampering progress as ever, but hopefully I'll have some cool things to show in the next few days - going to begin work on the three enemy types soon. After that the GUI is the next big hump!
I've been doing some concepts for it though and I think I've got a vague idea now :)

So I've finally made some more progress! The game now has a simple UI and three different enemy types.
    Hoorah.

I didnt know there was a LD for October. I should of entered it. I also made a Halloween game within the October month but just for fun haha.

Anyway, congratulations on finishing and releasing your game! Just doing that has a very rewarding feeling to it. Your game looks pretty interesting and I like the idea for it. Ill give it a try sometime.

Wish you the best of luck on your game and the contest. :)

And thats a pretty epic screenshot! I like it.

Just to bring this little thread to a conclusion - here is a gameplay video I have uploaded.
