Jewel Shader

I am looking to make a Jewel like this.



I believe I will need to write some shader from scratch.

I do not have any experience in writing any shaders.
Could any one give me any hint where to start?

What should I study?

By the way im aiming to release the end product on Iphone.

You can look at basic Unity Gems shader pack.
If you can, you can buy and take a look at the Hard Surface Pro shader pack and take a look.
You need to study concepts like reflection, refraction; etc...
Look at the GPU Gems like this one.
