It’s with a heavy heart that I deliver you the news that Unity’s CCO and co-founder Nicholas Francis is leaving for new ventures. From basement development to Goo Ball to the company UT is today, Nicholas has spent close to 10 years on developing Unity. So what’s next? Game development (with Unity) is next, exciting right! In an attempt to be a terrible tease, I shall now direct you to words from the man himself, where he reflects on developing Unity and talks about his tough decision to move on. http://blogs.unity3d.com/2013/02/21/time-to-move-on-to-something-else/ We are sad and extremely excited for him all at the same time! Best of luck to you Nicholas.

Sad and excited pretty much is how I feel. It's awesome to know Nicholas is following his heart and getting (back) into game development. And I'm very much looking forward to chatting on the forum ... and elsewhere. But at the same time it's very sad to have one of the people who really shaped Unity leave the position to shape Unity the way he did. Nich: Good luck man, and looking forward to playing games that are just as much fun to play with as Unity ;-) ... btw: What's going on with the comments on the blog? I've tried three times, and actually got a message that I already posted exactly that once ... but for some reason my comments don't show :-(
Sorry to see you go Nicholas, but hey, everyone has to move on sometimes I guess. Thank you for all your contributions to this wonderful engine that is Unity. Good luck!
It is understandable that Nicholas wants to spend his time using Unity, it is a great tool. But I hope he isn't too good with it, we already have enough competition...
Just want to say thanks, Nicholas - your work has been profoundly important to the lives of many people, myself included. It's opened doors for creative expression and opportunities economic success that did not exist before, for which we and those to come owe you an enormous debt of gratitude.
Does this mean we'll be seeing him posting in the forums about his game? I, for one, am really excited to see what he has in mind.
