Our small team of friends over at 2Beats have been working hard at re-imagining music gaming - with a bit of help of unity3d. Did you ever wonder what happens when music and gaming have a baby?

MokMok is our answer, coming soon to PC, Mac Linux. It is a truly unique experience, set in a visually stunning world, inhabited by Mok´s - living musical instruments.
They jump, blow and vibrate to the rhythm of your tune. Accompany them on a musical journey and play with music like never before. Use playful yet powerful composition tools to create your own songs and jam with friends online.

Check out our website for more information: http://www.mokmok.com

Don't forget: An hour of MokMok a day, gives you good karma to stay.

    cheers!

Got some amazing feedback from a MokMok tester today: "playing it felt like music became alive, not only seeing it but feeling it".
Do you like what you´ve seen so far? We thrive on feedback and want to learn, please help us :)

It looks unique! I like the concept, but what's the goal in the game?

@xKronik12x: MokMok is a musical adventure experience. It´s goals are exploring the world, making music through gameplay and helping the mok´s on there journey in many ways. Additionally you can jam with friends online which is really magical for musicians and non-musicians alike. Hope that is a bit clearer?

@carmine: We´re working on it very hard. No release date announced yet but hopping "soon..." ;-)

We´re smiling :) Today we got mentioned in joystiq and indiegames.com among other blogs.

    Joystiq says (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/14/mokmok-turns-monsters-into-music/):
Perhaps drawing inspiration from the Gyroids in Animal Crossing, 2Beats' MokMok is a world filled with creatures whose every action makes music. The PC/Mac/Linux indie is inhabited by "living musical instruments" called Moks, each of which makes a different sound – therefore creating a new composition whenever many of them are in the same place.

Players can collect these musical creatures as they explore the 3D environment, interacting with them to change their individual sounds (by making them angry, etc.) or rearranging them to make new compositions. Players will be able to meet online and jam together in 16-player groups, as well.

Samim Winiger, creative director of developer 2Beats Studios told Joystiq "You could say it's a distant cousin of recent indie hit Journey mixed with a bit of LittleBigPlanet," a comparison that makes sense given the combination of atmosphere and creation. MokMok is "coming soon."

LOVE the aesthetics and character design!
The game is simply a joy to look at.
The only thing that I have to note is that the trailer you posted leaves a lot to wonder about the gameplay.

@Not_Sure it´s a debut teaser trailer after all, don´t want to share all secrets at once ;-) But here is some more detailed info on the gameplay:

MokMok has 3 main focus areas:

    Play
    - A Single-player experience (you could say a distance cousine of recent indie hit "Journey" mixed with a bit of "LittleBigPlanet".)
    - The player wanders through a bizarre, musical 3D world and discovers it´s many inhabitant - the Mok´s.
    - Each Mok plays ("sings") a specific sound and is jumping, blowing, tapping to it´s rhythm (WhatYouHearIsWhatYouSee)
    - These musical creatures come in many shapes and sizes, each reflecting a specific sound element (a kickdrum is fat, a hihat is thin etc.).
    - Through the course of the story, the player interacts with music in many novel, immersive ways. Among others:
    - Collect recombine creatures to form a song (spacial arrangement of music), Hunt (guided song) Race Fight with music (On the fly mashups).
    - All music changes based on the gameplay decisions of the player (angry mok´s will play a angry tune, scared one´s a scared tune etc.)
    - The goal is to play with music like never before and invoke deep emotions through interactive synestesia.

    Create Share
    - MokMok offers playful yet powerful music composition tools that enables players to express themselves.
    - The "Mokbrain" is a full music editor which can be used to create your own beats and melodies with ease.
    - All music in the game can be radically customized, keeping the single-player experience fresh through user-generated content.
    - The "Mokpedia" allows players to share there own Mok-Songs and discover the communities output.

    Jam with friends
    - MokMok enables up to 16 Players to meet online and take part in "the great rituals" - realtime jam sessions.
    - Mok´s novel interaction models enable a wide range of people to collaborate easily.
    - Musicians through the MokBrain or newbies by just re-combining creatures.

Please ask me anything, i´m happy to answer what ever ;-)

Today the great IndieGameMagazin wrote about MokMok: http://www.indiegamemag.com/mok-mok/

"The idea of fusing music with gameplay is nothing new, there has been countless attempts to do this over the years. Some have been very successful, whilst others were relegated to a cult following at best. 2Beats games are looking to reimagine this now tired genre into something new altogether.
The team behind 2Beats have a strong background in the music industry, and hope to bring their many talents and experiences from their previous music careers into this interactive media.

MokMok is a great looking new game that allows you to take control over a band of living musical instruments as you explore new areas. It’s a game that manages to fuse wonderful visuals with the deep music design, formally only seen in more specialised music programs all twisted together into a wonderful narrative.
It’s not everyday you can genuinely be excited about a music games visuals but this is one of them. Everything about MokMok looks and sounds fantastic. Hopefully MokMok will be the beginning of a new age of music inspired games dragging the genre out of the uninspired and into a new dawn. Check out the trailer below:

The music creator in game looks fantastic and allows for you to develop very advanced music, beats, and rhymes that will allow you to express yourself through music. The aim seems to be to keeping the music generation as open as possible, so expect some diverse and great music to come out as a result.
All the gameplay elements revolve around the idea of music and if these ideas are implemented well I have no doubt this will be one fantastic and utterly unique new title.
Although no release date has been announced yet expect MokMok to hit the PC and Mac in the not too distant future. To check out all the latest information from the team at 2Beat be sure to head over to their official site http://www.mokmok.com"

33k youtube views in under 10 days, thank you so much!

Curios to find out, what kind of media output would you like to see from us in the future and how often?

    Some options are:
    - Mok-Videoclips (short, music focused)
    - Mok-Howtos (in-depth stuff e.g. "how to make music with mok´s" etc.)
    - Mok-Gameplay (short, vertical slices of the single player quest)
    - Mok-Vision (us talking about the vision behind the game).

    Let us know!
