    Hello,

After upgrading to the latest Unity, I am experiencing low FPS in WebPlayer builds.
Up until now, I was able to reach 60, and with the new build it caps at 51.

I am testing this with a completely empty scene, containing only an FPS display.

    Has anyone else noticed that?

I can confirm that too. I get 45-46 fps capped.

    Yes I see 51 too.

On my project I have 46. And I had 46 fps on some other webplayer demos I saw recently.

windows xp sp3 with ati5870 here.

    Thanks. That's disturbing.
Its not only that the FPS is slow, my game now looks jittery in the Web Player. You would expect that 51 FPS would not be so bad, but it looks like something got broken.

I wonder if anyone else can confirm they also see reduced FPS with the Web Player and latest Unity.

Thanks mgear - so I think it is safe to say that the recent Unity installs break something in the web player plugin. Right?
There is no reason for an empty scene to play at any lower rate than the usual 60 FPS.

Sounds like a safe assessment. I ran a project that I haven't touched in months, one that used to run at 60 FPS to find it only runs at 50 FPS. I'm hoping that gets fixed in the next update.

I have sent a report with a link to this thread.

I have also added a simple moving sphere to the test page to demonstrate that not only the FPS is low, but also the movement is jittery.
When I view it the sphere is moving in what seems to be far from a smooth motion, as if the 50 frames per second are not equally distributed - like some frames take longer to process than others.

I'm having the exact same problem as described in this thread. Have any of you heard any news about when a fix for this bug is coming?

the same happened for me for Unity Plugin version: 4.0.0f7 with Unity Engine version:3.5.6f4.
frame rate seems to be 50 and on fullscreen it seems to be capped at 100. This problem occurred in this game right after i upgraded to the latest version: http://www.kongregate.com/games/IgorLevochkin/counter-strike-web-browser-based-port-v2
on previous unity webplayers my frame rate would be around 140 on fullscreen, another person has the exact same unity build and has the same problems, exept his pc is a lot beefier.

53 FPS here. Creating new polygons on the fly also slowed down sensibly, we've got down to 30 FPS from 50+ FPS.. unbelievable -_-

We dont get any info on this.. But there must be some thing wrong. This is super bad if you make a update at the FPS is even worst then the old version. Then give us the old versions to download to!

Very strange. I have the latest version of the webplayer, and I'm seeing the FPS cap you guys are talking about, although it still feels pretty smooth to me (doesn't feel even a little bit jittery, esp. in fullscreen)

An update to those who are interested:

I have received a reply from Unity's QA team - they were able to reproduce the problem and it was forwarded to dev team.
The problem is still present in Unity 4.

Our project caps at 50 when not on fullscreen, and drops about 40% on fullscreen!

Well... looking at the ticket I now see it is marked as Closed.

    You are saying it isn't?
I am not taking any chances and not upgrading Unity for my current project. The memory of my last upgrade-then-downgrade-because-it-keeps-crashing experience is still fresh.... :)

I got the same issue. Yesterday I installed Windows 7 - 64bit version on my notebook, and now my maximum FPS are capped at 50 fps and the unity games are not running smooth anymore. Before, I always had 60 FPS and everything was running smooth (windows xp - 32 bit version)

EDIT: I have now installed Windows 7 - 32 bit version, and the 50 fps limit issue still remains. So it seems like the issue is rather appears with Windows 7 in general, not by the "bit" version of windows 7.

It seems like this is a general bug or something graphics card based. Sometimes i get 60fps (perfect vsync without hiccups) and sometimes it locks at exact 50. If i go below 50, with my framerate setting, it follows.

-HD7850 on my desktop: Chrome, firefox, opera explorer, and all have that 50 fps cap.
--Changing the screen refreshrate to 50: vsync is now perfectly smooth with the 50fps cap

-Intel HD3000 graphics on my notebook: everything works as it should and i get perfect 60fps vsync with any browser

a good test program to see if vsync is smooth (watch for hiccups in the upper row of cubes): http://marrt.elementfx.com/SmoothMovementTest.html

It seems as if Unity 4.2 resolved the framerate Cap, can anyone else confirm this?

finally my rigidbody interpolation is of use in webplayer! :D
