Thought I'd make my own thread as I don't want to fill up the small WIP thread with the stuff I'm working on.

    Current projects:

    Space shooter
    • Basic ship controls
    • Asteroids which destroy the player ship on collision
    • Planet shader
    • Some large particle FX, space dust, asteroid belt

    Platformer
    • Control system based on the Unity tutorial series
    • Main character and animations
    • Two modular assets sets WIP, forest + dungeon
    • Player and enemy health systems
    • Basic combat system, attack + block
    • Basic enemy AI

Here's a few shots of each project, and one of a tower I made for test scene early in my Unity experiments.

I'll update this thread as I make progress with each, I hope to have some videos and maybe webplayer demos of each project up soon.

    Amazing work.

I would really love to be able to create some sort of level generator with modular pieces, but I have no idea how to do that.

All four pictures have an absolute lovely atmosphere, but that space scene is pure awesomeness!

Thanks for the replies everyone, nice to have some encouragement and feedback :D

I'm focusing on the space shooter right now as I'd like to get a game to market within the next few months, the platformer is a longer term project, but I should have some updates to post from that soon as well.

Not much visual to show off right now as I've mainly focused on setting up the controls for Android. This screenshot is taken on my phone, sadly I've had to lose some of the post-pro, which is a shame. I've replaced the asteroid field with an animated texture, I'll add similar animated textures for some large scale background and atmospheric detail.

Got some ideas for another level, I'd like to try an inner-atmosphere/cloud level setting, (a bit like cloud city or something) with large structures coming up from the planet surface, then at some point a cut-scene or level transition in to space.

Beauuuuti-ful! I agree I love that atmosphere. Are you using some kind of screen effect?

Been a little tied up at work, and have been toying with diffferent ways of planning the course of my levels for the space game as it'll be on-rails gameplay. Should have an update on that soon. Did work on a sculpt though :

@I am da Bawss - Thanks, and yes - I'm using, color correction, bloom and flares, sun shafts, vignetting, motion blur and post AA (FXAA).

Been working on a new ship for the space game, still pretty WIP texture-wise.

All great works i really like sculpt, is last picture with Unity skin shader or Matcap?

    Thanks :)

The head renders are all done in ZBrush. The middle is a matcap white, the other two are the same material just different lighting and slight tweaks to specular values.

Nice space shots. I would say that I like the sun shafts, but they are actually shadow shafts. Very creative.

Busy at work as usual but I found some time to work on a new enemy for my platformer, also roughed out a scoring system. Player is rewarded 1-3 stars based on completion time, going to add a bonus score system that rewards killing monsters and finding secrets etc.

Compiled gifs for each of my animations, it really helps to see them all looping at this scale. I shall try and make each a little more cartoon like and exaggerated in my next pass.

Amazing scene composition. I am wondering why you are building two games at once and not focusing on one? Also, that last screenshot of the castle hut, is that a 3rd game?

    Thanks AlexZ :)

I guess I have a short attention span? Yes, the tower in that screenshot was made for a third game. The space game is very simple in terms of art production so I started it mainly to learn C# from the ground up, whereas the platformer is based on the Unity tutorial scripts, and involves a lot more work on the art side.

Playmaker really changed how I work though, so I'm re-using a lot of the FSMs as well as scripts across both projects.

Thanks man! Nice work on your folio, enjoyed the art in Daggerdale a lot :)

Will be updating this thread soon with a webplayer, have been fixing bugs and cleaning up the project after a long break from Unity.

Thanks, I'm a web guy professionally, aiming to make the transition over the next year or so :)

    Apologies for the double post.

Webplayer now up on my site.

Very rough but it's been good to get back in to the project and clean things up, currently revising my todo list and making plans for how to move things forward.

Really nice progress Bill, digging the style. Can't wait to see more.

Question, how did you approach the jump in the FSM? Still trying to get mine to look right.

Thanks again, I'm aiming to improve the core mechanics over the next few weeks, before concepting and working on more assets.

The core movement stuff is actually script from this tutorial. Hopefully this will be replaced soon with some code from a friend.

Been playing with another level theme, wall asset was made by a friend for another project we had started previously, doesn't quite fit the style of everything else but nice all the same.

You can view it full res at the URL, sadly the unity forums deal with images quite badly, need a resize/lightbox function.

    And yup, using pro.
