You may want to change the second place prize. Anybody who wants an iOS or Android license has one already because of the free sale. It sounds like a fun contest, though. When's the deadline?

    Cool, another contest!!

I have a question, if we don't win, we still have rights to our character, right?

Yes. We may at the end of the contast approach choice entries about acquiring the models in a traditional business transaction.

However the contest right now is simply a cool contest!

Cheers! Post your WIPs we've love to see them!

This looks great, I can see there is some talented people entering! I think I'll dust off a female base mesh and give it a try.

Is this contest only for US citizen, or open to all internationally? And may I know what's the render size for the final submission? Looking forward to join!

Open to all people of the world! This is international.

Image sizes should be big enough to see! Something like 1280x1024 +

Just make sure it shows of the characters!

How many times can I submit for the contest? Lets say I make 3 male and 3 female following the guidelines. Does that mean I have 6 entry chance to win? Or can I only choose one?

Not saying I will even try, since I am complete noob at 3d art.

@fleshtheworld you could enter 6 if you wanted and have six chances to win. But had you spend that time working on 1 and only 1 you would probably have better chances of winning.

Glad to see so many people entering the contest :D

Only way to get better is practice! And a contest is a great environment for that. With other people working on something similar you can see how they go about doing things to help your own workflow. And you'll be more likely to get good feedback.

I'll try recording some of my processes and posting them on youtube. I'll be sure to record some of my modeling and texture painting in modo. hopefully that could be a nice little insight into how others go about their business.

Wish I had thought about it before hand. I would have captured the modeling process. Maybe I'll start recording some of those kinds of videos as I'm getting back into things.

Yes, but it will be up to the judges to decide of this counts as a male vangard.

    Good luck!

I thought we couldn't use existing assets? unless I'm mistaken and this is a newly modeled character.

Ideally the character should be unique for the contest. In this case it looks like it could fit the entry description so might be considered. Again I make no promises. The rules make no statement against entire models that are existing assets. It simply states that the model should be under your ownership.

We tried to pick concepts that would be unlike to exist in existing model someone already had.

Again the judges will have to decide if it counts based on the requirements of the Vangard.

No problem. I'm not bothered if it gets entered or not, but we had it kicking around as it was in progress and thought why not.

    I have a couple questions.

What other forums/websites are aware of this contest?

And Is there a style requirement? Can we do stylized, cartoony, anime, or any other style, or is it supposed to fit a particular style?

I think I am going to make something, even though I am not a character artist. :D

I have read the post at Mixamo and it says nothing about art style, unless I missed something?

I was thinking about making something sort of "WoW" like but perhaps with a bit more detail with the 40k tri limit and all.

    @Nipoco

That is cool, I was just curious. I probably stand little chance winning either way, as I am not a character artist, but I am going to give it a go anyway. Maybe I will get lucky. :D

    Paradigm,

Yes please enter, but again the judges at the time of judging will have to decide on it.

Great news, the Contest has been extended based on contestants requesting more time. We've agreed to end the contest by one week.

The new END DATE is MAY 4th @ 11:59PM PST

If you have already submitted feel free to refine the entry and resubmit! Otherwise, we'll see you at the end of the contest!

    Hello there.

I was wondering if you can answer me the following questions regarding the constest.

    1. I know the focus of the contest is to make a character but is adding fictional weapons that is part of the character will boost our chances of winning and is it recommended to make weapons in general?

    2. Is spending time on a background and surroundings recommended or the main focus will be to provide awesome looking characters?

    3. How much adding special effects and compositing will effect the final call?

4.Also can we have small objects that are part of the character or idealy the model should be one whole mesh?

Thanks in advance and good luck to everybody.
