    Here's hoping they also expose the lower-level graphical FSM stuff for general purpose use.

    I was hoping for good stuff out of Unity Canada, looks like they delivered and then some. Can't wait for it.

    EDIT: Did anyone see the guy using the 360 controller in the reflection at one point?
    Does that mean we get XInput support out of the box?

    does this run with the current renderer (3.5) ? i was wondering what the impact is with multiple characters and the fps :).
    animations looks great tho!!

    This is sweet I think that they should makes it as buyable plug-in.Would be good if we could get a bit more advanced terrain tools.

    This is awesome news. First modo getting character animations features, now Unity integrating character animation features right into the engine. I'm in awe!!!

    The guys working on that are ultra experienced software animator developers. And the stuff they are putting on Unity is really the next level on character animation stuff for next gen games.

    LOL i just spent 3 weeks building my own blend tree. I don't know if i am pissed or elated (Probably elated cos i have watched the video 5 times in a roll). Just wondering when this is going to be released so I can stop wasting my time.

    If Unity allows editable nodes (Well they have always allowed editing) then there is no competition. This was the reason a number of people picked unreal over Unity.

    This has always been the backlog and a barrier from me making 3D games. If we can easily make 3D models in DAZ 3D and import them to Unity's new character animation, then that would really speed up the process.

    I can't wait until this feature is out.

    Wow!! When they announced that unity had acquired HumanIK last year I had thought it would have taken longer to see any results. This is fantastic!!

    Sorry but Unity did not acquire HumanIK. They acquired the team that worked on EA's Animation system.

    My bad. When I read these articles some months back I thought it was the HumanIk rights. You are correct it was the team. Which IMO is even better.

    Very cool. Be interesting to see what they're doing that they haven't shown yet (HumanIK is more than just motion blending after all...you don't stop there if you're out to impress!)

    Question for the Unity devs: If you plugged in position data coming from a MoCap system could you use the point positions to animate characters using the retargeting system in real time?

    It's looking pretty nice. Even though it competes with my Asset Store product (Sage: Anim Graph Editor), it is still very nice for them to add features that are missing from their engine out of the box! :)

    Me? I was saying that I think it is GOOD that they are adding this and that it is looking pretty nice so far! If you are indeed talking about me, saying someone is prejudiced generally has a negative implication. And my post was not negative in any way.

    This is a super great news!

    What about integrating a mocap pipeline into this new system? I think the video did mention the function to import motion-captured data to Unity. I hope they can talk about this a little more.

    EXACTLY! I've been away for a month or so cause I've been so heavily focused on learning v601 and now I come back to see what's happening with Unity and eff'n WOW!

    Be realistic, this is a major new set of features, they aren't going to slip it into a small point release.

    Mecanim's tech require animation to be on disk ( we do optimisations, looping, pre-retarget offline!) and animation must be on the bones themselves (we don't have an algorithm to map markers to bones!). We don't currently support live link over mocap. Video found here give a pretty good tutorial on what it does!

    Does Macanim have a full body IK solver and will we have access to it? For instance, will we be able to set a Vector3 as a target position for a characters left hand, specify how far up the bone chain it should affect and blend between normal animation and the solved position?

    Yes! We have all of it. IK setup is completely automatic and available in a very simple API.

    I'm sold. Not super happy about the increase in upgrade costs over last upgrade cycle, but if you guys keep adding features like this (and it works well), I can live with it.
