    Error

You are using Unity iPhone Basic. You are not allowed to remove the Unity splash screen from your game

I'm not actually messing with the damn splash screen.

    Thoughts?

EDIT: Yes have rebuilt the xCode project numerous times

Have you accidentally removed the splash texture from assets or something?

How is that even possible? The Unity splash screen does not come up inside your Unity project folder.

My suggestion: as a last resort, uninstall then reinstall Unity in your machine

Try building xcode project under different names, restarts etc. I got it working with a portrait splash screen on a landscape only game but the whole process fails about 25% of the time still.

This was never an issue here, I do not really understand why this happens so often now.
I already tried renaming the project, placing in somewhere different, cleaning the project and every single cache.
    This is weird..

I need help with this too. I was using the Pro Trial, and have now registered with iOS Basic.

I'm getting this error even when I make a brand new Unity Project. I've tried this with just a very simple Unity Project (rendering 1 cube in front of the camera), and I still get this.

I have no idea how to work around this since this is Unity settings and not my own code.

    Very frustrating.

    I would appreciate any help/suggestions.

    I've already tried:
    - uninstalling/reinstalling Unity
    - deleting all the Unity related Preferences
    - starting a new blank project
    - rebooting

Not sure what else I can do.

(In case it helps, it's with Unity 3.5, and I've updated to Xcode 4.3.)

I'm getting the problem too. Everything was working fine until I upgraded from Snow Leopard/XCode 4.2 to Lion/XCode 4.3.1.

I'm trying to narrow down what the issue is before filing a bug report.

I bet current Unity doesn't support latest xcode properly yet since it has new settings for the new iPad (including splash screen)

Exactly the same situation as soldmeadow - today I went from SL/4.2 to Lion/4.3.1 and now I can't run anything because of the splash error. Hoping for a _very_ quick fix.

This has happened to me too, luckily it was on the first build on a new project.
Couldn't get it to go away so the only option was to create another project - and haven't seen it since.

Hope the "fix" is to remove the whole splashscreen policy for basic licence *giggle* :]

Just a note to say that this happens even when deploying to non-iPads.

Here it happens when I use Xcode 4.3. But the issue is that I updated my iPad to iOS 5.1 and my Xcode 4.2 does not recognize my iPad that way. What I do? I turn on Xcode 4.3 so it recognizes my iPad, shut it off, then open Xcode 4.2 that now can recognize my iPad, then I use it to compile and transfer to the iPad.

Kinda stressful process. At least I have to open Xcode 4.3 only once, but I did not intend on keep both installations of Xcode..

Ops. I am running Lion too. When I said I was using Xcode 4.2 I meant 4.2.1, it runs well here.
    Have you tried it?

I don't know where to get it - I only upgraded to Lion yesterday, when the 5.1 iOS SDK came out along with Xcode 4.3.1

If you need it urgently, you can search for it on:
    https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action

Just type "xcode 4.2.1" without the quotes.

If you prefer, here is a direct link, but you need to be logged on the developer portal, I guess:
    http://adcdownload.apple.com/Developer_Tools/xcode_4.2.1_for_lion/xcode_4.2.1_for_lion.dmg

But... I still need a Xcode 4.3 compatible bugfix for Unity3d! :D hahahaha
Otherwise I need to do that open-xcode-4.3-and-close-it-before-using-xcode-4.2.1 process in order to get my iOS 5.1 iPad recognized..

Thanks. I can confirm that installing Xcode 4.3 (NOT 4.3.1) allows me to deploy to my devices as a temporary workaround.

is this happening on 3.5? Because mine is happening on 3.4.2f2.

What is different now on my end to when it was working
Upgraded Mac OS to Lion, from Snow Leopard
    Upgraded iOS to 5.1
    Upgraded XCode to 4.3.1
Downloaded Android license(free) did not install.

    wtf

It's nothing to do with Unity 3.5, it's the new Xcode/SDK that has new splash screen requirements.

Build with Xcode 4.3 (NOT 4.3.1) or 4.2.x. The links have been posted for Lion downloads in this and other threads. I downloaded 4.3 and just dragged it to an Xcode Old folder in Applications.

You'll still need to have 4.3.1 open to recognize your device, though.

you can drag the 5.1 ios folder from Xcode 4.3 and drop it into the same location in the directory for Xcode 4.2 and that worked for me.

Bummer. I'd just like to add my voice to the chorus, that I'm having this issue as well. I don't like having to downgrade XCode and would love to see a fix for this in a new Unity release as soon as possible. Otherwise, love the product!

I actually have the exact same issue.. I had to update xcode because I couldn't launch anything anymore on my iPhone..
then after having paid the upgrade from OSx Snow Leopard to Lion, I was able to update xcode (4.3.1) and unity (3.5) but now I have this issue...

what's the ETA for this showstopper issue ? I have to update my app urgently but don't want to rollback xcode if an update of Unity is about to be released !
anyone from Unity could give us more info ??
    cheers

Same problem here and ok, the fix is to donwgrade the Xcode, but *this will prevent to use an updated device!!!*
if we revert to an "old" XCode, 5.1 devices won't be recognized anymore...so there is no way to work on... how to solve that?

It is not ideal, but you should be able to do an Ad Hoc build and sync that to your device.

yeah but this is exactly what I want to avoid if Unity is about to fix the bug !
I can read thank you ;-)
I'm just asking : "what is the ETA ?"
there's no point to download and mess up my os with another version of Xcode if a fix is on its way !
but if the ETA is 3 weeks then I might consider it

anyone from Unity could throw light on us ? thx

yeah, same issue here after purchasing a new macbookPro with latest Lion and latest Xcode updates and Unity3.5 :(

EDIT: Ha! I had came here to this thread from a google search, now after going through the forum more thoroughly I find this: don't upgrade Xcode if you're on unity basic topic

Does anyone know an ETA on a proper fix for this? I am downloading 4.3 to see if that will build. A comment or acknowledgement from Unity staff would be nice...

No update on this from Unity as yet! :-(

I have tried rolling my xcode version back to 4.3, but still same issue with my iOS 5.1 iPhone4.

I can now compile to my iPad, which still has iOS 5.0 on it.

Looks like xcode 4.3.1 is required for iOS 5.1 devices... :-(

So I am stuck, cannot compile my app to submit to Apple, as it will not work on iOS 5.1 devices.

    Help!!!

I did not try with 4.3.0, what is your ambient? OSX Lion + Xcode 4.3.0?
This version already supports iOS 5.1?

    Thanks! :)

Yes, OSX Lion + Xcode 4.3.1 + Xcode 4.3.0 (moved app file to desktop). I built my game with Unity 3.4.2f3, then manually opened generated project file in Xcode 4.3.0.
It detects both my devices (iphone4 and original iPad) which are on 5.1. I am able to put my game to devices normally in that way.
