[UNITY] Now on Skype

So what is this? how does this "Skype" work.. what does it do? is it not just a chat thingo? if so how would those commands in the OP work?

(this isn't a joke I'm seriously asking i here loads about Skype but cant find what it is and why it wont let me download it)

 

It is just a chatting software, as for the commands, what you do is you change your notification settings so that you are only nudged/notified when the words are typed. This is so that you are not spammed with noise and also so that you know when something important is being said.

I have sent an email to UT requesting for this chat to be added to the Unity resource section along side the user created IRC. I received a promising email, Need to wait for the site to be stable again as they are making some changes supposedly

Ive been in touch with one of the an Ex-Lead software developer for Skype asking if it was possible to host an ongoing call in which users could just drop in and out of but its a complex process If I was to set something like that up, and it would cost. but its a future choice.

 

That would be a nice feature, but it's much harder to say things with actual voice than with text. The more people there are the more likely one is to get cut off or interrupted while speaking. Let's just stick with text chat for now.

 

We have just re-configured the Unity chat, if anyone is missing from it please add CharlieSamways on Skype and I will add you straight in.

If there's people interested in that kind of thing, I could offer a TeamSpeak server. As TeamSpeak is room based instead of "conference based", people dropping in and out of rooms is not an issue. This works "by design".

Well, a lot of the time we aren't talking only about Unity. Things can get very off topic. It's a place to chat with other Unity users, but that doesn't mean the conversation has to only be about Unity.

Talk can go from the Unity engine, to art feedback, to game testing, to people looking for work to general natter about what your having for tea If things get to off route I or other members just re-direct it.

The use of the tags mean you are not inclined to listen to the natter if you don't wish, you will only be notified if tags are used which are all more important, focused topics.

When you add me as a contact just type 'Unity' in the message box. Its just so I know why you are adding me before I bounce on you with something business related

The grill has been open for just over a year now. Id like to thank everyone who's been around to make it work, Its great to see people still as active a year down the line, And I hope with the help of the community the group will continue to grow and strive in the coming years.

Also, To any staff who may be lurking. For a long time now It has interested me to get the group put onto the website, along side the Unity IRC chat. I have been in touch several times with a few different staff members all with good words to say, but with the pressure of Unity 4 nothing had been pushed forward. I would be very interested in discussing this with a group of you to see if there is anything we can do to help increase the user flow and allow the chat to continue striving forward.
