I'm going to guess it's a scaling issue. Try switching to a capsule and keep its default scale and tell me if you still have the same issue.

Oh, and I'm guessing the warping is due to you messing with scaling.
What exactly is the "barrelmount"? Where is it positioned in relation to everything? Can you post your scripts?
Are you doing any manual rotation on the barrel?
You can set a flag that when true, does what you want in the GUI. Or you could just assign a color to constantly use, and manipulate that color...
Judging from what's been said, I'd suggest smaller textures and increasing your memory if possible. The problem seems to be with allocating chunks...
